Growing up as a kid, the North Fork of Long Island was still ‘undiscovered’ and primarily a farming and fishing community.  My first jobs as a teenager were working as a mate on party and charter fishing boats and it was here that I developed a love for the water.  That passion led me to obtaining my captains license and operating my own charter boat for a number of years, and subsequently, providing lessons to new boaters, working as a tow boat operator, and private captain.

Fast forward a number of years, the North Fork now attracts visitors by the tens of thousands each year to enjoy our quiet bays or sample some wine at one of the many local vineyards.  These days I bring my experience and passion for the water to Marine Surveying.  I pride myself in attention to detail and partnering with each customer on their project.  I particularly appreciate helping new boaters with pre-purchase surveys, helping them to find the right vessel for them.   So if you're looking for a professional who operates with pride and integrity, give me a call.  I look forward to partnering with you on your next boating project.

Testimonials:

"Mike consulted with me on the pre-purchase of a vessel and due to his thoroughness, found structural damage that was not disclosed by the seller."

Andrew M.

" He did a very thorough job and followed up to make sure I understood and was satisfied with his report.  He made himself available to answer any questions I had.  I would not hesitate to utilize his service in the future."   Steve F.

"I'm very pleased with the results.  Mike was able to identify issues that I would not have been able to detect myself prior to the purchase.  The survey ultimately paid for itself."

Stan R.

A Marine Surveyor should do more than just generate a report.  Understanding your boating expectations is a fundamental part of the boat buying process.  It's our goal to deliver you a thorough evaluation of all vessel systems to make sure you're compliant with USCG safety requirements, but also to make sure the vessel meets your personal needs.

A Commitment to Quality

A Commitment to Quality

Boats are subject to the harshest environmental conditions, and a focus on quality and detail is an important factor when delivering you an accurate assessment.  We take pride in the level of detail we take in each project and strive to ensure our customers are truly satisfied with our work at the conclusion of each project.  From Maine to Florida, we're here to assist you.

Some things to keep in mind when you prepare for a survey

Please help by removing the clutter

"I forgot to mention, the boat is shrink wrapped"

"I forgot to mention, the boat is shrink wrapped"

We all keep personal items in our boats and if you have kids, the inevitable water toys.  Removing as many personal items as possible will help your surveyor focus time inspecting the boat, and not wasting time removing years of accumulated clutter.

All boat covers and shrink wrap should be removed, if possible, prior to the survey.  If it can't wait, we can gently 'lift' shrink wrap to access what we need and resecure / retape to the best of our ability but be prepared for additional charges.

The hull might need to be power washed

The hull might need to be power washed

In the category of 'can't inspect what we can't see' the hull might need to be power washed by the marina.  For insurance surveys, this is payable by the owner directly to the yard.  For pre-purchase surveys, this is typically paid for by the buyer.

Vessel documentation

Think about who will attend

Whether the vessel is USCG documented, or state registered, a copy of the current vessel documentation is helpful data about the boat and its ownership to add to the final report.

We always welcome interested parties to attend a survey, but please don't bring the family/friends/kids/pets.  Our surveyors need free access to various parts of the vessel without the "excuse me" shuffle.
